JAPANESE ZERO
Japan's Zero was the best aircraft-carrier-based fighter airplane in the world when it was created in 1940. Built from a special type of high strength aluminum the plane featured the ability to fly long distances and was extremely maneuverable.
The tradeoff to high performance was the Zero provided pilots with no protection against bullets and anti-aircraft fire. Despite high losses the Zero's effectiveness in combat forced America to upgrade the quality of its airplanes and to develop combat tactics that took advantage of the plane's easily damaged and flammable structure.
Throughout World War II Japan made design improvements but the planes remained fragile and only a few still exist today. In movies featuring stories about the Zero such as Tora Tora Tora different aircraft painted to resemble Zeros had to be used.
Our model is an excellent handcrafted mahogany wood replica. It is not a kit. It comes fully finished. The wings slide into the body on two metal pins. The Zero is then ready for display on the wooden mahogany stand which is included.
