 FORD TRI-MOTOR
The Tin Goose
Price includes standard shipping
Automobile  manufacturer Henry Ford built 199 of the Tri-Motors and he lost $10 million doing it.

Ford gave up on the airplane business in 1933 after the last of the $50,000 airplanes was delivered to its buyer.  The airplanes found widespread use with the miltary and fledgling airlines.  The reliable triple-engine machine was able to carry heavy loads into areas with short runways making it extremely popular.

Ford used corregated aluminum for the wings and body which gave the plane great strength but a strange look.  The Tri Motors were nick named the, "Tin Goose."

The most famous of the Tri-Motors flew over the South Pole as a part of Richard Byrd's 1928-1929 Antarctic Expedition. That plane is now in the Henry Ford Museum, less than a mile from where it was built.

Most of the TriMotors were in use for decades after Ford quit making them.  Some spent their last years being used by barnstormers.  Some were modified with sliding doors so that they could carry smoke jumpers. A few remain in existence today.

The replica is completely finished.  There is no assembly.  Take it out of the box and place it on its wooden base, which is included, and it is ready for display.

The plane is hand crafted.  The wood is finished in a clear, high-gloss lacquer that emphasizes the warm, reddish-brown tone of the mahogany.  This is an exceptional piece of decorator art that will complement your office or home decor.
