The plane features a sophisticated heads up guidance and weapon systems that lets a pilot see all of the controls without having to look down at the physical controls. As the pilots choice of weapons changes so does his visual inputs. The plane has radar that can look down without being confused by ground clutter. The weapons system can track multiple adversaries and the plane can deploy counter measures in addition to a large number of offensive weapons. A US F-15 has been used to fire rockets which destroyed an orbiting satellite.
Eventually the F-15 will be replaced by the much more expensive F-22 Raptor. But for now it is a main stay of the US Air Force.
