B-25 MITCHELL BOMBER
The First WWII Aircraft to Bomb Japan
Created in the midst of World War II the B-25 Mitchell Bomber went into immediate production from design with no pre-flight testing.
Lieutenant Jimmy Doolittle loaded 16 of the planes onto the aircraft carrier Hornet and sucessfully bombed Tokyo in 1942.
Another B-25 became famous for crashing into the Empire State Building. The plane was traveling in thick fog in 1945 when it hit the skyscraper. The accident killed 11 people.
Almost 10,000 of the planes were built. The B-25 was used in all of the theaters of the War. Designers kept making changes that ultimately allowed it to carry eight 50 caliber machine guns. In addition to bombing targets the US used the B-25 to strafe Japanese ships that were trying to resupply the Emperor's forces through out the Pacific.
The replica is a hand carved model made from mahogany. It is finished in a high gloss lacquer that emphasizes the richly colored, reddish-brown-wood.
The model plane is not a kit. It is complete. Slide the wings into place and it is ready to be placed on the display stand which is included. It will make an excellent addition to your home or office decor.
